Children born with lymphoedema are medically termed as having “Connatal Lymphoedema” which causes swelling and oedema in the affected limb or area. Initially treatment is well catered for in many Australian Hospitals. They provide compression garments and other assistance. 

Ultimately lymphoedema control for your child still rests with you. The information provided here is to help you find additional methods of lymphoedema control to make your life, and your child's life easier. 

Why does my child have lymphoedema?.

The cause of your child’s lymphoedema swelling is by the entrapment of excess proteins in the fluids bathing the cells of the body in the lymphoedema affected area. These extra trapped proteins work like magnets for other fluids and will hold approximately seventeen (17) times their volume of additional fluid in their area of entrapment. This causes the swelling of your child's lymphoedema. If you are able to reduce the number of excess protein from the lymphoedema affected area the swelling will reduce.

Historically the treatment for child lymphoedema is;  

Decongestive child lymphoedema massage;  
This takes time and children often resist with tantrums, wriggling and other ways they find effective.

Compressive Bandaging for children with lymphoedema; 
The works ok, but is time consuming and restrictive for your child’s movement.

Compression garments for children with lymphoedema;
Compression garments for children with lymphoedema need constant refitting to prevent stunting you child's growth. 

These three methods of lymphoedema control shown above for your child regularly have positive effect on lymphoedma containment. They are all time consuming, tiring, long term expensive and can be quite wearing for your soul.
